A Phulia Jamdani in the palest pink — the colour of a Calcutta sky at half-past five — with hand-floated silver butti scattered across the body. The pallu is a denser butidar field.
Anita Basak's loom is set up in her front room; the punch-cards for this Jamdani were drawn by her mother in 1998 and have been used continuously since. Each butti takes three minutes; there are two thousand of them.
Hand-spun cotton, 100s count · silver-thread butti · Woven in Phulia, West Bengal by Anita Basak. Weave time: 32 days.
